ARCARE TAIGUM

Arcare Thornlands
Completed in late 2018, Arcare Taigum demonstrates Elevation Architecture’s ability to deliver thoughtful aged care design within a highly constrained, environmentally sensitive site. Located in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, the project occupies a compact site protected by a vegetation preservation order, requiring the building to be carefully designed around several large established trees. Rather than treating these constraints as limitations, the design embraces them, allowing the architecture to weave organically through the site and create meaningful connections between residents and the natural environment. View corridors and orientation were strategically planned to maximise outlooks to mature trees, while the first floor was designed to sit among the canopy, offering residents a tranquil, elevated experience. Central courtyards draw light deep into the building, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere throughout. Communal facilities, including a café, hair salon, theatre, and private dining room, support a sense of community, comfort and belonging consistent with Arcare’s Relationship-First model of care. Arcare Taigum stands as a testament to the balance between environmental sensitivity and human-centred design, providing a warm, contemporary and deeply connected place to live.
